Pion captures website traffic by listening into the raw network traffic between your web servers and visitors. This requires that you:
- Install Pion on your web server(s), or:
- Install Pion on a separate server that resides in your websites' data center
To install the Pion software application on your web server, you must download the appropriate installer for the operating system used by your web server (not your desktop or laptop computer). Please refer to the following knowledge base articles for more information:
- Getting Started - Windows
- Getting Started - Mac OS X
- Getting Started - Redhat Linux
- Getting Started - Ubuntu Linux
To install Pion on a separate server at your data center, you will need to use either a network tap or port mirroring on your network switch. This requires a little more IT help, but makes it easy to monitor traffic for many different web servers, up to 1Gb/s or tens of millions of daily page views. The server can be either our Reactor Core appliance offering or any x86-based hardware (Dell, IBM, HP, etc.). Please see the Pion Installation Guide for more information.
