How does Pion interface with my Google Analytics account?
Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Pion delivers your web traffic directly to Google Analytics using the same HTTP API that is normally employed by the ga.js and urchin.js Javascript page tags. It does not log into your Google Analytics account or access any data that you already have stored there.

When Pion is communicating with Google Analytics, it uses your Web Property ID to specify which Website Profile your data will appear in. This is displayed within Google Analytics' interface next to the name of each profile and also on your "check status" page, and has the format UA-XXXXXX-Y (i.e. UA-123456-1).

If you have an existing Google Analytics implementation using page tags, we recommend that you add a new Website Profile for use with Pion. This will allow you to run with both Pion and page tags side-by-side to compare the data and see just how much you've been missing. If you do not create a new Website Profile then you must remove your page tags to avoid double-counting your web traffic.

After installing Pion, your reports should start to appear within a day. It takes the same amount of time for Pion's data to appear in reports as it does when using page tags.

All of the standard out-of-the-box reports in Google Analytics are fully supported by Pion Lite. Pion Enterprise also includes support for ecommerce tracking, custom variables and events, real-time data processing (lookup tables, transformation, filters, etc.) and enterprise database integration.
